Fabege celebrates five years with TalangAkademin

Since 2020, Fabege has partnered with TalangAkademin to help people enter the labour market. The collaboration has now been ongoing for just over five years, during which approximately 600 individuals have been matched with internships and around 300 have progressed to employment or further studies. The partnership is now being extended to create new opportunities for more people to take their first steps into working life.

TalangAkademin supports individuals who are far removed from the labour market through internships combined with skills validation. This includes everyone from young people in need of networks and a first opportunity after a prolonged period of unemployment, to highly educated graduates who find it difficult to gain a first relevant foothold in the job market.

“We see people as a resource, not a problem. Everyone has a talent – it’s about creating the right conditions for it to be recognised,” says Winnie Mukaru, Coordinator and Site Manager at TalangAkademin in Huddinge.

A key part of TalangAkademin’s work is the validation of transferable skills such as collaboration, responsibility and problem-solving. These are qualities often sought after by employers but which can be difficult to demonstrate in a traditional CV. Following the validation process, participants receive a certificate that highlights their strengths and competencies.

“This is not about internships for the sake of it. The goal is always self-sufficiency and long-term solutions,” Winnie adds.

From internship to employment – for real

The results of TalangAkademin’s work, where Fabege is one of the initiators, demonstrate how social sustainability can be translated into practice within urban development. By connecting people with employers in areas where Fabege operates, pathways to employment are created while also strengthening the local community.

For Fabege, life between buildings is a central part of urban development, where safety, wellbeing and access to services are crucial to how people experience their everyday lives. An important part of this is the social sustainability initiatives the company supports – including the partnership with TalangAkademin.

“Our ambition is to make it as easy as possible for our customers’ employees to balance their lives. Restaurants, services and meeting places contribute to safety and wellbeing – but equally important are the social sustainability initiatives we support, such as Pep Park in Solna for play and physical activity, and TalangAkademin, which helps people into employment. Together, these shape how our areas are experienced and developed,” says Mia Häggström.

“What is unique about Fabege is that the commitment does not stop at management level. It exists throughout the organisation – among area managers, property managers and colleagues who open doors and create opportunities,” Winnie adds.

Looking ahead – the next five years

For companies, the partnership offers an opportunity to connect with new talent and future employees. At the same time, it helps more people access the labour market, strengthening individuals, businesses and local communities alike.

Despite clear results, challenges remain – not least in creating more internship opportunities in certain sectors and reaching even more employers.

“The potential is enormous. There is willingness among the participants and a clear need among companies. If we continue to open doors and raise awareness of how the collaboration works, we can help even more people into employment across Stockholm,” says Winnie.

Mia Häggström continues:

“After five years, we clearly see the value of long-term commitment. Our ambition is to continue developing the partnership and inspire more companies, in more districts, to collaborate with TalangAkademin to discover new talent for their organisations.”
