Fabege honors Wenner-Gren Center’s legacy with new mural
This summer, Fabege revealed two well-preserved advertising murals from 1962 at Wenner-Gren Center – classic logos from Kungsörnen and Kellogg’s that had been hidden behind the facade for over 60 years. Now, Fabege is continuing the tradition by adding a new mural, created in the same spirit as when the building was first constructed.
The original murals from 1962 were a PR initiative by industrialist Axel Wenner-Gren – founder of Electrolux. He had advertisements for Kungsörnen and Kellogg’s painted directly onto the property’s facade. Wenner-Gren never applied for a building permit for the paintings, and they were covered up by the facade before the city could intervene. Today, this historical legacy is joined by a new artwork that pays homage to the timeless nature of the Wenner-Gren Center.
–We were genuinely thrilled to discover the original paintings just before summer and to see the attention they received. We want to amplify that joy even further when the facade is one day unveiled again, says Johan Zachrisson, Head of Business Development at Fabege.
Forever Young c/o Fabege
The new mural, Forever Young c/o Fabege, will adorn the building for a few weeks before the new facade is installed – but its message will live on as a greeting to the future.
– Not all buildings age with grace, but Wenner-Gren Center certainly has. That’s why we want to give the property the epithet it deserves – an iconic building that remains just as attractive and relevant today as it was 60 years ago, Zachrisson continues.
A Landmark in Transformation
Today, Wenner-Gren Center stands as one of Stockholm’s most recognized landmarks. Having reached the end of its technical lifespan, Fabege launched a major renovation in the spring of 2025, set for completion by the end of 2026. The building is being refined to meet growing demands for sustainability and functionality, while its historical character is carefully preserved.
– Once the renovation is complete, we’ll be able to offer the market modern and flexible office solutions, along with a wide range of services, restaurants, and meeting spaces – all with an outstanding view over Stockholm. It will simply be a unique and inspiring place to work, says Henrik Bauer, Business Manager for Wenner-Gren Center at Fabege.
