We both want and are able to be a driving force in the development of a sustainable city. In districts where we own a significant number of properties, we take responsibility for the whole picture, from acquisitions and local development plans, to measures to boost the appeal of the physical environment and social initiatives. For us, sustainable urban development is about the whole person, the whole company, the whole location. The whole time.

We are leading the way with our ambitious work on sustainability. Our approach is rooted in a holistic perspective to strengthen our neighbourhoods as experience-based meeting places, where the primary focus is on health, convenience, safety and comfort. We also need to find new ways to increase the attractiveness and well-being in and around our properties with as small a climate footprint as possible.

OMX Sweden Small Cap 30 ESG Responsible Index

Fabege has been included in the new OMX Sweden Small Cap 30 ESG Responsible Index (OMXSS30ESGGI) on Nasdaq Stockholm, which highlights companies on the Swedish stock market that show leadership in environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.

Sustainability Report 2023

Sustainability has long been integrated into our business model and overall strategy. Our sustainability work has a holistic perspective, owing to our focus on well-defined districts. Sustainability is a collaborative effort and we are proud of what we have achieved so far.

Fabege’s share green

Since November 2023, Fabege's shares are classified as a green share on Nasdaq Stockholm, known as Nasdaq Green Equity Designation. The green share transparently discloses the company’s climate impact, with the aim being to ensure visible information for investors seeking sustainable investments.

The sustainability strategy

Our sustainability strategy, adopted by the Board, extends until 2030, and guides the company towards sustainable development.

Overall sustainability targets:

Our property management will be carbon neutral by 2030, measured in CO₂e/m².
By 2030, we will have cut emissions from new construction by half compared with 2019.
Our financing will continue to be 100% sustainable and green.
100% of our framework agreement suppliers will be sustainability audited against Fabege’s Code of Conduct, policies and international conventions.
We will continue to focus on social issues when developing our districts.
We want to make a difference in the areas we develop and manage, and our focus is on children and young people, good education, meaningful leisure time, cultural experiences and pathways to the labour market.
We want to be one of Sweden’s best workplaces according to Great Place To Work (GPTW), with a long-term Trust Index target of 90.

Agenda 2030 and our role in a broader context

The UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serves as a guide in efforts to ensure global development is sustainable in the long term. The business community has an important role to play here, particularly the construction and property sector.

Sustainability House

We have taken sustainability to a new level by constructing a building from buildings in Haga Norra.

Innovation with only half the climate impact

In a traditional new construction project, about 450 kg of CO2/sqm is currently emitted. Parkhuset in Solna Business Park is expected to achieve emissions of 225 kg CO2/sqm – only half the climate impact.

Scandinavia’s first zero-energy hotel

The nearly 2,500 sqm of solar cells on both the facade and roof make the hotel the world's most solar cell-dense and makes the building achieve zero energy.

Europe’s healthiest property

SEB’s office in Arenastaden have achieved Fitwel’s healthy building certification. It is the first property in Europe to be awarded 3 stars, something only 5% of those that apply for the certification manage to achieve.

With the whole person front and centre

We don't just think about buildings. We take a holistic approach, and an important part of that is that the people in and between our properties feel good. That is why we work actively with social sustainability issues. One example is Children's Day in Flemingsberg - a fun day for the children in the area. Another is the Pep Parks that we built in Solna in collaboration with Generation Pep with the aim of inspiring play and movement in everyday life. We are also involved in Läxhjälpen (homework help) and TalangAkademin (Talent Academy) in Flemingsberg as well as several other value-creating cooperations.

General ESG engagements

UN Global Compact

The UN initiative Global Compact (Global Responsibility) is the world's largest sustainability initiative with over 13,000 member companies and organisations from more than 170 countries. The members must actively work with sustainability issues in accordance with the Global Compact's ten international principles for companies' actions regarding human rights, labour law, environmental practice and anti-corruption measures and must report their work to the UN annually. The principles are based on the UN Declaration on Human Rights, the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration and the UN Convention against Corruption.

We have supported UN Global Compact since 2011.

International Labour Organization (ILO)

The ILO is an international labour organisation that brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 member States, to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men.

We support the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, which are part of the Global Compact's ten international principles.

Science Based Targets

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact (UnGC), the World Resource Initiative (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) which has developed a framework for companies across the world to set scientifically based climate goals that are in line with what is required for us to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

With the desire to reposition the business to contribute to reaching the 1.5 degree target according to the Paris Agreement, we joined the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) in 2019 and developed a climate target that was approved by SBT.

Fossil Free Sweden

Fossil Free Sweden (Fossilfritt Sverige) is a national initiative working to increase the pace of the climate transition and make Sweden one of the first fossil-free welfare nations in the world. The goal is to build a strong industrial sector and to create more jobs and export opportunities by going fossil free.

As part of Fossil Free Sweden, 22 different industries have produced their own roadmaps to show how they can enhance their competitiveness by going fossil free or climate neutral. We have signed Fossil Free Sweden’s roadmaps for both the heating sector and for the building and construction sector.

Klimatarena Stockholm

Klimatarena Stockholm (Climate arena Stockholm) aims to streamline and structure cooperation between the county's companies, municipalities and academia in order to increase the pace of climate change in Stockholm County.

Klimatarena Stockholm consists of four working groups; Climate calculations, Recycling market, Circular planning and Climate-smart building materials. We are actively involved in all working groups and have signed the climate pledge, which means that by 2030 we shall have halved our emissions of greenhouse gases during construction.
